CyberSTEM Camp

In this five day camp, rising 7th and 8th grade girls learn programming, computer forensics, cryptography, and more. Learn more here.

High School:

Intermediate CyberSTEM Camp

This week long camp for 9th and 10th grade girls allows students to learn cyber forensics techniques, work with industrial programming languages, explore vulnerabilities, and more. Learn more here.

During this seven day residential camp, rising 11th and 12th  grade boys and girls learn and apply their skills in intermediate networking, programming, hacking, and more while learning about the careers in cybersecurity and cybersecurity options at the University of Maryland. Learn more here.

Program Overview

Summary

Cyber Defense Training Camp is a 7 day residential summer program for rising junior and senior high school students. Participants will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of cybersecurity and gain practical skills through instruction by an experienced security professional. Students learn about career options in the field, take at least one field trip and hear from a variety of speakers to learn more about how to prepare to enter this exciting profession.  Additionally, students will be introduced to the Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students (ACES) honors program offered at the University of Maryland.

*Technical experience is recommended, including networking, Cisco Academy, and/or Java programming.

Goals

To prepare the next generation of cybersecurity professionals through interactive learning, skill building, and utilization of available resources.  Participants will be introduced to the cybersecurity programs available at the University of Maryland and they will be exposed to various topics and careers in the field of cybersecurity.

Cost

The cost of the program is $1250. This fee covers housing in a UMD resident hall, all meals, transportation to field trips and recreational activities. Please do not include the fee at the time of application. The fee is due upon acceptance to the program. This however does not cover transportation to and from the camps. We do not offer transportation to and from camps, and so all arrangements are to be made by campers and their families.

At this time we do not offer refunds for campers.

TRANSCRIPTS:
All applicants must upload in this form or send their most recent UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS to mcwic@cs.umd.edu. Applications without corresponding transcripts will not be evaluated for the program. Transcripts must be sent within two weeks of the submitted application.

REFERENCES:
All participants must supply a name and email for one reference. This person should preferably be a teacher or instructor of a computing/cyber training or camp the student has attended. References will be contacted via email to complete a reference form. If you need to update or provide additional information about your reference, please email mcwic@cs.umd.edu

CyberSTEM Camp

Program Overview

Summary

CyberSTEM camp is a one-week commuter summer program at the University of Maryland, College Park for middle school (incoming 7th and 8th grade) girls who are interested in the growing field of cybersecurity. This 5 day experience provides hands-on activities focused on STEM and cybersecurity topics. Attendees will learn and apply basic concepts of programming, forensics, cryptography, and program management from a series of gaming, modeling, and simulation activities, which explore the interconnections of science, math, technology, and computers.

Goal

To allow young women to explore various topics within the STEM and cybersecurity fields by linking research to practice through hands-on experience. Participants will be introduced to the cybersecurity programs available at the University of Maryland and will be exposed to various topics and careers in the field of cybersecurity.

  • Dates: Monday, July 16, 2018 - Friday, July 20, 2018
  • Time:  9:00am-3:30pm (before and after care will be provided for an additional fee)

Summary

This camp covers similar content areas as CyberSTEM camp for 7th and 8th graders, and allows for a deeper and more in-depth exploration of the subject matter.

Saturday Cybersecurity Awareness Workshop

Saturday Workshop Grades 6-8

The Saturday Cybersecurity Awareness Workshop for Grades 6-8 provides an interactive learning and mentoring experience for girls in grades 6-8 who are interested in technology, computers, and cybersecurity! Undergraduate students will lead activities in various computer and technology related topics. This event will provide girls the opportunity to learn everything they need to know to safely use the internet and technology with confidence! We will accept up to 70 girls for this event.

Program

In the Cybersecurity and Cybersafety program, undergraduate students will lead you through interactive presentations and exciting workshops. You will engage in fun, hands-on activities that will allow you to become a smarter computer user!

  1. Welcome and Icebreaker Activities
  2. Groups rotate through hands-on activities in various topics
  3. Lunch
  4. Closing Ceremony
    Includes an interactive review of the day's activities and recognition for participation (Parents are strongly urged to attend this session).

Applications for the December 2nd, 2017 Cybersecurity Workshop are NOW CLOSED. Please fill out the following form: https://go.umd.edu/workshop17_2 (link is external). You will then be emailed additional forms that will need to be filled out before the deadline.

Applicants will be notified via email of each child’s admission to the program. You will first need to reply to that email confirming that your child will attend. This email will have an attached Permission Slip that then must be completed and returned (via mail or email) prior to the event. There will also be information about mailing in your payment (checks only). Payment must be received prior to the event.
